Perhaps we have heard dozens of stories relating to the origin of Christmas cake, a classic in these times of year. We know he was born in Milan (Italy), about 500 years ago. However, historians have not yet agreed on the circumstances in which this delicious sweet bread was born. The most curious of all refers to a dish without thinking named Toni discovered this tasty mixture of sweet dough, butter, raisins and fruit. The year was 1495 and the Duke of Milan, Ludovico il Moro, held an exclusive dinner for Christmas. He had served a great feast, including a tasty dessert, but this was burned. The cook was in crisis and, when everybody thought that was the end, Toni was presented with a mass that had kept to take home on Christmas Eve. It was sweet and sprinkled with raisins and fruit remains. As a last resort, taken to the oven and presented in the table. The dessert was the hit of the dinner and everyone was fascinated with this preparation. The Duke decided to name the dessert as "Pan de Toni" name, that led to "Panettone".Another story is related to Ughetto Atellani Futian, a young aristocrat who fell in love with the daughter of a baker in Milan. "To show his love posing as an apprentice baker and invented a sweet bread shaped dome and candied fruit aromas of lemon and orange," the story. Ughetto changed his name to Toni and thus became known. The name could also derive from pane di tone (large loaf), a name that made the writer Pietro Verri in the eighteenth century.
ARRIVAL IN PERUFor centuries it was known in Italy Panettone and parts of Europe, but it was not until 1950 when it was industrialized by Gino Angelo Motta and Alemagna, both were fighting for competition and consolidation in the market for sweet breads. The tradition spread throughout the world and Peru could not be an exception. The first to prepare this sweet family classic was D'Onofrio. They came from Italy in 1911 and its initial category were the ice cream (in summer) and later the chocolates. At about the 60's, started selling the recipe for panettone Alemagna.
